On Wednesday Feb 6th, I boarded a plane direct to San Francisco, California. I was on my way to the 2019 Facebook Community Summit at Facebook's headquarters in San Jose. This was a 3 day conference sponsored and paid for by Facebook. When I say paid for, it was an all inclusive event... My flight, hotel, transfers and food were all on Facebooks tab. How lucky was I to have been chosen.
I later found out that there were 400 of us from Canada, the United States and Mexico. We were hand picked out of a select group of 1000 community groups and small businesses currently using the Facebook platform.
It was a wonderful 3 days of learning and sharing. The Facebook team made us feel very special by letting us know that because of us they existed. They had members of their teams responsible for the functionality on Facebook, speak to us about how they are working towards making Facebook easier for us to do business. Including some tips and tricks on how to benefit from all of what the platform has to offer.
Another big part of the experience was learning from the other attendees about what they do and how they are making a difference. From the Church in Canada that has used their Facebook group to let their community know that they are inclusive of everyone, and are there to lend a hand to anyone that needs food or shelter, to the Facebook group out of Mexico that helps poor local coffee growers in a small town in Mexico bypass the middle man to keep more money in their pockets...to "She Trucking" a Facebook group of African American women truckers that support sisters working in this predominantly male industry. There were so many other amazing people, too many to mention.
I though I would share this with you to encourage and inspire you to do your best because if you do, you will be celebrated one day. Just as I was.
